George Amaya |
In September of 2006, the state of Georgia lost great tennis pro and friend of tennis, George Amaya. George’s life represented the epitome of tennis professionalism, coaching,
leadership and sportsmanship.
Two weeks before his death, George was inducted into the
Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame. It was a special night for all of us to share with George as he received this distinguished honor. At the end of the evening, George expressed to his wife, Mary that he wished he had done more for junior tennis players. With this wish in mind, The George Amaya Fund has
been established.
The George Amaya Fund will provide monies to rising junior tennis players for tournament costs and travel
expenses. Due to financial limitations, often, talented kids cannot attend key tournaments and therefore suffer in tennis experience and ranking. This fund will fill a great need. In keeping with George’s great legacy, each recipient must have demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship both on and off the tennis court. In addition, an annual contribution will be made from this fund each year to his beloved Presbyterian College.
