Session-South Share Fund

Lee Sessions Jr.

The SouthShare Foundation was established in 1996 to extend Bank South’s legacy in its former service communities. The Sessions – SouthShare Fund (the Fund) was established on September 11, 2005 as a separate fund by Lee M. Sessions, Jr. and the SouthShare Foundation.

Lee Sessions has devoted his life to the game of tennis and this Fund ensures that for generations to come aspiring tennis players have equal opportunities to excel regardless of their physical or financial status. The Sessions – SouthShare Fund will also focus on preserving the history of the game in Georgia through the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame.

The SouthShare Foundation and the Sessions family established the Fund as a matching challenge grant of $250,000 that requires the Georgia Tennis Foundation to raise $250,000 over a five-year period ending December 31, 2010. The dollars raised by the GTF for this challenge will be designated exclusively for the Sessions-SouthShare Fund.

The Sessions-SouthShare Fund will focus its giving primarily on individuals and organizations within the state of Georgia and will:

  • Provide assistance for coaching, physical and mental training to junior players who have proven to have exceptional on and off court potential so that they can participate on the ITF circuit and lower levels of professional tennis.
  • Provide assistance to disabled or handicapped youth (especially encouraging the deaf) creating opportunities for them to participate competitively.
  • Provide research dollars to study emerging trends in physical fitness and nutritional advancements, mental training, and advancement for disabled athletes.
  • Provide funding to ensure the history of Georgia tennis is preserved and shared with the public on an ongoing basis, including the acquisition of items of historical value.
  • Support the Georgia Tennis Foundation’s Hall of Fame
